Alexandre Estrela, João Maria Gusmão + Pedro Paiva: Lua Cão was published on the occasion of the exhibition of same title at La Casa Encendida in Madrid. An immersive show curated by Natxo Checa which bonds the works of the three Portuguese artists through “constellations” of 16 mm films and digital videos, inviting viewers to reflect on perception, the elasticity of time, and the materiality of images.
Lua Cão is a journey that experiences an interplay of dialogues and tensions that tests synergies and coincidences, juxtaposing two media, two technologies, and two artistic universes. The shared projection surfaces, placed back to back, define the space and provide a backdrop to the works, which paradoxically offer different meanings while occupying the same space. The works of Estrela and Gusmão + Paiva have never been so close and yet maintain their own profound singularity.
